The quality of our cochineal is unique since it has a higher content of Carminic acid (19% - 21%).
Colorant for cosmetics, pharmaceutical or food industries, It is extracted and refined from the cochineal, it is an insect that is installed as a parasite on the prickly pear leaves (Opuntia Ficus cactil), whose sap is fed through an oral stylet. Its reproduction takes place in the same plant which hosts forming colonies. The natural colouring extracted from cochineal, contains two substances: carmine and carminic acid, which are harmless to man, so it is recommended as a natural coloring. The main ingredient is carminic acid. It is widely used as a colorant in jelly drinks, sugar, candy, canned food, sausage, western ham and other products.
